For most teams, the start of a new season means new faces. Whether that be through rookies or free agents, it usually implies a rejvuenation of the team. For the Pats this year it seems as though its a familiar face that gives them that extra push.
The return of star QB Tom Brady seems to give the Patriots the swagger back that they lost on the fateful Sunday afternoon last September. Through training camp so far Brady has looked crsip, and while still sporting a knee brace, he seems to have recaptured his top level form.
Brady isn't the only thing the Patriots will hope cause opposing defenses headaches. During the offseason the Pats signed veteran running back Fred Taylor to help boslter a unit that was riddled with injury during the 2008 campaign. Taylor looks to split carries with former first rounder Lawrence Maroney, and last years starter Sammy Morris. As always, Kevin Faulk retains his role as third down specialist.
At wide reciever the Patriots return Randy Moss and Wes Welker, who some people may have heard of. To fill Jabar Gaffney's spot as the slot reciever they signed Joey Galloway, who despite his age, brings a wealth of experience to an already dangerous offense. Speedster Greg Lewis and rookie Brandon Tate round out this talented group.
The pats look almost identical to last year along the defensive and offensive lines, which may not be terrible considering they have some of the most talented players in the league at those positions. At linebacker Teddy Bruschi and Jerod Mayo return as starters at the inside, with Mayo looking to build upon his rookie of the year honors from his 2008 campaign. At outside linebacker they have Adalius Thomas on one end and Pierre Woods slated to battle it out with Tully Banta-Cain for the other starting position.
One are where the Pats are uncertain is the defensive secondary. The Pats drafted Patrick Chung and Darius Butler in the 2nd round and look for big contributions from both in their respective first professional seasons. Brandon Meriweather and James Sanders return as the starters at safety. While newly aquired veterans Shawn Springs and Leigh Bodden look to fill the starter positions at conerback. Not to mention the return of 2nd year players Terrence Wheatley and Johnathan Whilhite. This unit has a mix of youth and experience that Pats fans hope will bring the Pats D back to its glory days.
With an influx of youth on defense and a return to health on offense the Patriots look primed to make a deep run into the playoffs again here in this 2009 NFL season.
I was bored lol
