Packers Fire Offensive Coordinator!
(Green Bay, WI)- You'd never have thought it. After a huge division rival victory, 160 total passing yards, and a successful week 1 win, offensive coordinator Joe Philbin was called in to general manager Ted Thompson's office, only to realize he had been relieved of his duties. "I was shocked", said Philbin. "I made 1 wrong move out there, and that was it."

That one wrong move, might you wonder, happened with seconds to go in the first half. Leading 20-7, and preparing to receive in the 3rd, Philbin ordered a passing play, rather than the safe bet of running the clock out. "They put some pressure up front, and I couldn't get it out in time", said QB Aaron Rodgers. The playaction pass was picked off by Ted Harris, and returned for the 32-yard touchdown. That play completely changed the momentum going into halftime, with the Packers barely leading by 6 points. "My plan going into the 3rd was to ease the offense and use up as much time as possible with that 13 point lead. However, that final move completely changed our strategy. Our defense had to step up, and thankfully they did by shutting down our opponent in the 2nd half", said coach Mike McCarthy. Owner Hadoudi was not immediately available to comment.
The Packers defense forced 5 interceptions, 1 of which was returned for a TD. Pat Lee lead the team with 2 picks. Meanwhile, the Packers offense ran over the Bears with over 270 yards of total offense. Rodgers threw a pair of touchdowns for 160 yards, while RB Ryan Grant ran for a hundred and a TD. It remains to be seen who will be filling the vacant slot following Philbin's layoff, however there are rumours that Green Bay is talking to the Saints about possibly releasing QB Coach Joe Lombardi of his duties. Lombardi is the grandson of Hall of Fame Green Bay coach Vince Lombardi. In his first season as quarterbacks coach, starting quarterback Drew Brees passed for 5,069 yards, just shy of the NFL record. If hired, Lombardi would be promoted as Offensive Coordinator. The Packers play their week 2 matchup against the ownerless Cincinnati Bengals.
The Packers are looking at the past to bring some glory to the future
