Following a disappointing end to their season last year, losing to division rival Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional round of the playoffs, the NFC's #1 seed last year looks to build upon last year and go on another Super Bowl run.
Once again, the team will be led by Pro Bowl quarterback Eli Manning, who looks to build off perhaps his best season, in which he had a career-high completion percentage. However, he does have some questions to answer as when he was without Plaxico Burress last year, he struggled and it ultimately led to their defeat in the postseason.
The biggest question the Giants must face this year is at the wide reciever position. New York has lost its top two wide-outs, the aforementioned Burress, who was cut and later signed with the Bears, and the Giants' all time leading receiver Amani Toomer, who has to sign with a team. Wide receivers Steve Smith, Dominik Hixon, first round pick Hakeem Nicks, Mario Manningham, Sinorice Moss, and recent pick up, rookie speedster Johnny Knox, all need to step up in order for this team to succeed. Smith, Hixon, and Nicks are all looking to compete for the top 3 spots with Smith looking to lead the way so far while Manningham, Moss, and Knox also competing to be the number 4 receiver, with Manningham and Knox seeming to run away with it.
However, two places where the Giants don't have any questions is at defensive and offensive lines. On the defensive side of the ball the Giants have one of the best, if not the best, defensive lines led by All-Pro defensive ends Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora, who is coming off of a torn meniscus. In addition, the Giants have added defensive tackles, Rocky Bernard and Chris Canty. On the offensive lines, the Giants also have one of the best lines led by All-Pro guard Chris Snee. The O-Line has been playing together for a while now and now have a great chemistry which allows them to perform to a high standard.
All in all, the Giants, like all teams have questions about them, but I think they overcome them and I feel they should remain in playoff and perhaps Super Bowl contention all year.
